Reliance Jio has brought two of its video streaming services — JioCinema and JioTV — to the web. This essentially allows any Jio subscriber to watch live TV shows, movies from these platforms on their computers through a browser. Surprisingly, the telecom operator, unlike its usual approach, hasn’t made any announcements for these by silently added the new apps to its lineup of entertainment options.

The web apps for both JioCinema and JioTV follow designs of their respective smartphone counterparts. As a result, the latter comes with a familiar timeline of channels allowing you to watch older episodes as well. Moreover, you can toggle between standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) quality too which can come in handy if you’re on a limited network. There are no additional charges for now either.

How to Watch JioTV and JioCinema on Your Computer

To watch JioTV or JioCinema on a web browser, head over to their respective links. For logging in, you are required to use your Jio credentials or phone number. You also don’t necessarily need to be on a Jio network, contrary to the limitation of its mobile applications. There’s a chance that this could mean, in the future, the company might let non-Jio users sign up for its entertainment services.

The availability of JioTV on the web especially is expected to impact Hotstar sales which substantially drives on streaming live cricket matches. In addition to that, the catalog of over 550 channels will certainly allow a ton of users who have been planning to cut the cord with their cable operator and completely decamp to online services.

JioTV and JioCinema’s web apps have been one of the most requested features from the company’s subscribers. Consequently, this will add yet another factor in boosting the telecom operator’s growth and justify the upcoming rumored price bumps. What’s next? Maybe dedicated apps for streaming sticks like Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google Chromecast? Surprise us, Jio!
